Blog – Canada needs a change – December 2024
Is change coming to Canada in 2025?
On Dec 16/24 the Canadian government was to deliver a financial update. The fall financial update, 2 months late and at the behest of others.
Everything went crazy when the Finance minister, who was supposed to read it, resigned her role. That same day the Housing Minister also resigned.
So there was a scramble and another Minister read the financial update. And it was bad news, very bad news for Canadians. An expected $40 billion dollar deficit for the year ended up being almost $62 billion. Clearly showing to anyone the government was hiding the fact that they do not have a clue what is going on.
All this drama comes at a time when the government is giving a tax break on the goods and services tax which no business has to reduce prices if they do not want to. A tax break for a government badly in debt. Make no mistake this tax break is to hopefully give a boost to retail sales which are slumping. Any increase would be welcome news for the government to show with an election coming in 2025.
After Monday’s fiasco the Prime Minister decided to take a break, usually you need a break because you are doing your job well. Not in his case, he cancelled his annual Christmas message and all other public engagements.
A lot can be read in to all of this but the facts draw a pretty clear picture.
